Well... I've been planning this cake since April. No idea why I didn't get moving on it quicker!
I can't remember how I can across "Lost and Found", I saw the trailer somewhere - perhaps on Amazon - and added it to the LoveFilm list. It's a short animation based on the childrens book by Oliver Jeffers. It arrived, we watched, we loved it! I now own the book and the DVD. And the little penguin toy that came in the gift set :)
Oliver Jeffers tells the story of a penguin who arrives at the house of a boy. The boy, thinking the penguin is lost, sets out on a row boat to take the penguin back to the South Pole. I'll say no more ;) You'll have to watch it.
The upturned umbrella and ducks were made some weeks ago out of flower paste as I had to let the umbrella set. I coloured the paste yellow and then rolled it out and draped over a Poach Pod. Using a circle cutter, I cut the paste away to create the edging effect of an umbrella. I then left to dry. With the left over yellow paste, I made the rubber duckies. Don't worry, if you watch the movie and it will make sense!
Today, I covered an 8" round cake and 10" board with blue sugarpaste and made the boy and penguin figures, along with the umbrella handle. The handle is a kebab skewer cut to size and all of the other decorations are made from coloured flower paste. In my excitement, I forgot to mix it 50/50 with sugarpaste to make a modelling paste. Ooops! :\
I've enjoyed making this cake. As I said, it's been planned since April. It is just something for me to practice with and have a little fun with, it's not an actual cake as I've decorated a dummy. I want to get into the habit of practicing new things.

For those of you who haven't seen the animation, here is the trailer.
It is well worth a watch, whether you have children or not! I don't have children but still thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
